Biography:
Hazrat Ali is currently a researcher in artificial intelligence and healthcare at Hamad Bin Khalifa University Qatar. Previously, he was a senior researcher at Biomedical Engineering R&D center of Umea University Hospital Sweden and Umea University Sweden. He is also an Assistant Professor at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI), Abbottabad Campus, Abbottabad. At CUI, he is a member of the signal processing and machine learning research group. He is also the course head for the Digital Signal Processing course. His research interests lie in unsupervised learning, deep generative and discriminative approaches, medical imaging, and speech and image processing. He has authored/co-authored more than 50 publications in various international journals and conferences including the International Conferences on Neural Information Processing Systems (NeurIPS), IET Computer Vision, Neural Computing & Applications (Springer), IEEE Access, Multimedia Tools and Applications (Springer), The Computer Journal (Oxford), IEEE IJCNN, and EANN.
He is Associate Editor at IEEE, Academic Editor at PeerJ Computer Science and served as a reviewer at IEEE Access, IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks and Learning Systems, IEEE Transactions on Medical Imaging, IEEE Transactions on Emerging Topics in Computational Intelligence, Pattern Recognition Letters (Elsevier), IET Signal Processing, Neural Processing Letters (Springer), ACM Transactions on Asian and Low Resource Language Information Processing, etc. He has served as a PC member at leading conferences including ACL 2020, ACL 2019, NeurIPS Workshop on ML 4 Health, and MICCAI 2020. He has delivered invited talks at various national and international venues including Biomedical Engineering R & D of Umea University Sweden, and International Conference on Computational Sciences and Technology (INCCST 2019).
He is Principal Investigator for HEC Grant (2016-2017) on research for Urdu handwritten text.
He is selected as a young researcher at the 5th Heidelberg Laureate Forum, Heidelberg, Germany. He is the recipient of the DAAD AI Networking Fellowship Germany 2021, the Best Researcher Award by COMSATS University (2020-2021), the Kempe Foundation Sweden grant for postdoc research, the HEC PhD Scholarship, the scholarship grant by European Machine Learning school, the Top 10 research pitch award by the University of Queensland, Australia, IEEE Student Travel Award, the IBRO grant, the USTB excellent international student award, the TERENA/CISCO Travel grant, QCRI/Boeing Travel grant, and the Erasmus Mundus STRoNGTiES research grant.
He is a member of IEEE, a member of the Swedish AI Society, and a Registered Engineer at Pakistan Engineering Council.
